Pastor's Letter - Annual Report
February 11, 2007
This past year was certainly an exciting one for us at Georgetown Presbyterian. Departing from a long history of shared pastors with Coolspring, our congregation took a step of faith by calling me to a full time ministry here beginning October 1st. Over the coming year, we will see how this change will work itself out in worship and ministry opportunities. However, as exciting as that step is, we must remember that the vision and work of a congregation do not reside in one person, but rather come from the shared discernment and ministry of the entire church family.
In 2007, we will be conducting a major mission study. This study, sponsored by the session, will look at where we are and help us determine where Christ calls us to go. All active members and friends will have an opportunity to share thoughts and ideas through a congregational survey and a series of small group gatherings. In addition, we will acquire household data and survey religious attitudes from the neighborhoods surrounding our church. All of this information will be brought together in such a way that we will be able to create a "doable" three year ministry plan addressing the needs and strengths of our congregation and how we may best interact with the spiritual and physical needs of the community around us.
One of the areas which will be addressing in 2007 is our Sunday morning time together. Our Sunday School continues to struggle with sporadic attendance. How do we inspire parents to understand the importance of the Sunday morning community to their children’s growth and long term well being? How do we lift up the importance of ongoing biblical study for adults? How do we orient our worship services that they might better reach across the generations? How can our worship move beyond the limits of our sanctuary? How might we become the "Beloved Community" that Christ calls us to become?
This is a time of not only seeking answers but of also enjoying the questions. For it is in wrestling with these questions that we will discover the path God has prepared of us.
In Christ’s Name,
Michael Williams, Pastor
